On February 1, 2008, three sixth grade students from Dade Middle School traveled to the Clayton County Performing Arts Center for the two-day 10th Annual Sixth Grade Statewide Honor Chorus in Jonesboro, Georgia.
The three students, Kara West, Lynzie York, and Kaylee Cravey, auditioned in class and were chosen to participate.
Their director was G. Philip Shoultz, III, a renowned children's chorus director. They performed six pieces including a Cuban piece titled Oye!, and A Comic Duet for Two Cats.
The students were a part of one of two 200 voice choirs. The conclusion of the two day festival was a concert on Saturday, February 2nd. The final piece for this concert was a combined piece, Get On Board!, for the two choirs and included over 400 sixth graders from all across the state.
A recording of the concert will be broadcast statewide on Georgia Public Radio at a later date.
The chorus instructor for Dade Middle School is Gabrielle Haston.
