4th Grade "Time Travels" at American Village

On Friday, January 25th, the Dade Elementary School fourth grade classes visited American Village in Montevallo, Alabama where they "time traveled" to three important periods of history.

At these locations, the students met several historic figures who challenged them to become better citizens in their own time of history.

- James Armistead, black spy for the colonies, showed the students how he had to have confidence in himself to trick General Cornwallis.

- Harriett Tubman demonstrated how it is sometimes necessary to take personal risks to remain free.

- Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott taught the students that equality means that individuals must be willing to sometimes think differently that they way most of the group thinks.

- An officer with the regiment at Valley Forge spoke on how freedom demands personal sacrifice.
