Bio:

John Millican is a longtime resident of the Chickamauga area where he lives with his wife, two sons, three cats, and two dogs.  His wife is also a teacher and teaches Fifth grade in Walker County.  His wife and he are both former athletes, so his poor boys will grow up with teacher/coach parents.

During his teaching career at Ridgeland High School, he taught World and U.S. History classes for two years prior to becoming the Work-Based Learning Coordinator (WBL) for Ridgeland and the Youth Apprenticeship Coordinator (YAP) for Walker County.  Mr. Millican built the WBL and YAP programs from scratch and had a lot of success obtaining career style job/paid internship placements for hundreds of students.  Before he left Ridgeland, the WBL program at Ridgeland alone, the students were making just over $500,000 total per year.  In 2019, Mr. Millican was asked to lead the College and Career Academy at Ridgeland.  This academy focuses on students who were not in Honors or STEM but still planned on attending college or trade school.  During this time Mr. Millican also coached football.  He began as a Wide Receivers coach under Coach Tankersley and was a part of winning multiple region titles and having four of his receivers move on to play at the college level.  Mr. Millican also coached receivers under Coach Braswel and had one receiver move on to play at the college level.  Under Coach Klein, he was moved to coach Defensive Line.  During his three years as Defensive Line coach, Mr. Millican enjoyed another region title and had five players move on to play at the college level.

As a Social Studies teacher here at Dade County High School, Mr. Millican stated, he has every intention of applying the same drive and passion in educating and coaching throughout his career.  Mr. Millican expresses that it is his deepest desire to see all of his students and athletes succeed and move on to be successful in whatever they choose as a career.
