I have served in special education for eight years as a paraprofessional and have worked with a variety of special educators during that time of service. I received my teaching certificate from Western Governors University in May of 2022 after attending Northeast Alabama Community College and the University of Alabama earlier in my education. I have a deep passion for serving my community and their children. I want my students to leave the classroom feeling loved, supported, and ready to achieve their goals in education as well as in life.

  • Why Some Kids Struggle (8 Reasons Why Kids Might Struggle With Reading)

    "Some kids have a learning disability that makes reading difficult to learn. Others come to school without the literacy experiences they need to become readers. Some children struggle because they've received poor or inadequate reading instruction. When these and other risk factors are identified early, though, many children's reading difficulties can be prevented."     Students will :

     Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas, concepts, and information through the selection, organization, and analysis of relevant content.

    a. Introduce a topic; organize ideas, concepts, and information, using strategies such as definition, classification, comparison/contrast, and cause/effect; include formatting (e.g., headings), graphics (e.g., charts, tables), and multimedia when useful to aiding comprehension.

    b. Develop the topic with relevant facts, definitions, concrete details, quotations, or other information and examples.

    c. Use appropriate transitions to clarify the relationships among ideas and concepts.

    d. Use precise language and domain-specific vocabulary to inform about or explain the topic.

    e. Establish and maintain a formal style.

    f. Provide a concluding statement or section that follows from the information or explanation presented.
