Maggie Luke
Hello! My name is Maggie Luke. I grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina and moved here in 2016 to attend Covenant College. I graduated Covenant in 2020 with a Bachelors in English Literature, and then graduated in 2021 with my Masters in Teaching, also from Covenant. I teach English Literature here at the high school and I have taught English I, American Literature, AP Language and Composition, and AP Literature and Composition. I love literature, especially poetry, and have so enjoyed getting to teach it at the secondary level.
As an English teacher, my goal is not to teach students what to think, but how to think. I hope that in whatever way they learn to think, that they also develop the capacity to empathize with those around them. Critical thinking and empathy are the two things I hope to impart to my students through the studying of a variety of texts. I want them to become strong writers so that wherever they go, they’re prepared for the challenges they face and be able to achieve their personal goals.
When I’m not teaching, I’m usually spending time with friends and family. I attend Rock Creek Fellowship in Rising Fawn where I play violin, and on a final and unrelated note, I am deathly afraid of alligators.
