Welcome to the Media Center
Atriuum Online Card Catalog System - Atriuum Management System
The Davis Elementary Media Center is located in the center of the Davis Elementary School. With that in mind, it is also the heart of a learning community, as it serves students, faculty, and administration. The Davis Media Center holds approximately 25,300 materials, including books, e-books, leveled library materials, videos, equipment, and professional teaching resources.
Students are welcome to use the library whenever their classroom schedule permits, to browse, read, research or select and check out materials. Classes also visit the library weekly for grade-appropriate lessons based on the Georgia Standards of Excellence and the AASL (American Association of School Library) standards as well as for library/research skills and book exchange. Books circulate for one week and may be renewed. Kindergarteners, first graders, and second graders may sign out one book at a time, while students in grades three through five may borrow two. Parents are welcome, too, to borrow books during school hours on Monday's and Wednesday's. Davis Elementary also has a great Parent Resource Room stocked full of educational materials to enhance learning; these materials may be checked out by parents as well.
The Dade County School District believes that all students should have access to technology when they act in a responsible, efficient, courteous and legal manner. The Davis Media Center is currently home to 22 student computers. Internet access and other online services, such as GALILEO, and United Streaming to which the district subscribes to, offer a multitude of global resources to students and teachers. The Davis Media Center has also upgraded to a new library system called Atriuum. Atriuum allows anyone to look for materials in the catalog from any computer with an Internet access. Students are taught how to use the catalog system to ensure they find the books they need upon their visit to the library. Also, the Davis Elementary School has partnered with Overdrive-an ebook supplier to offer several e-books that can be read online. Overdrive has an app that can be downloaded and books can be read in this manner as well. Students in grades 3-5, will be introduced to Overdrive this year and given a Library Card number to access these materials. Overdrive materials can be accessed from any device with an Internet connection. For younger students, the Davis Elementary Media Center also subscribes to Tumblebooks, an online collection of animated picture books that can be accessed online as well. Tumblebooks is a great resource for students to use at school and at home. The goal in providing these services is to enhance the educational development of our students.
