Mrs. Shaina Chandler
"If a child cannot learn the way that we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn."- Ignacio Estrada My name is Shaina Chandler and I am a Dade County native. This is my second year at DMS and my eleventh school year with Dade County Schools. I received my teaching certificate from Western Governors University in May of 2022 after attending Northeast Alabama Community College and the University of Alabama earlier in my education. I have a deep passion for serving my community and their children. I want my students to leave the classroom feeling loved, supported, and ready to achieve their goals in education as well as in life. This school year I will be serving students along with Mr. Blake, Mrs. Baugh, and Mrs. Bell as well as in my own classroom for two class periods.

Why Some Kids Struggle (8 Reasons Why Kids Might Struggle With Reading)
"Some kids have a learning disability that makes reading difficult to learn. Others come to school without the literacy experiences they need to become readers. Some children struggle because they've received poor or inadequate reading instruction. When these and other risk factors are identified early, though, many children's reading difficulties can be prevented." Here is a link stating 8 reasons why kids might struggle to read and other reading resources.

This nine weeks, August-October, we will be working on Narrative and Argumentative Writing and Reading Literary/Informational Texts.
Students will:
- Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, relevant descriptive details, and well-structured event sequences.
- Describe how a particular story’s or drama’s plot unfolds in a series of episodes as well as how the characters respond or change as the plot moves towards a resolution.
- Determine a theme and/or central idea of a text and how it is conveyed through particular details; provide a summary of the text distinct from personal opinions or judgments.
- Write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence.
- Cite textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.
- Trace and evaluate the argument and specific claims in a text, distinguishing claims that are supported by reasons and evidence from claims that are not.
