Mr. Stan Gibby

Mathematics Department Head

College Readiness Math/Algebra 2

I began my teaching and coaching career in Tampa, Florida, at Temple Heights Christian School.  Over my ten years there, I primarily taught mathematics, with some science and Bible courses as well.  In coaching, I assisted in football and basketball and was the varsity baseball coach, reaching the final four in Class A in 1987.  I would end my time at Temple Heights as the AP Coordinator and athletic director.  In 1993, I took a math teaching job at my alma mater, Scottsboro High School, in Scottsboro, Alabama, teaching Applied Math and coaching basketball and track.  After a year, I became the varsity baseball coach and enjoyed leading the Wildcats to the playoffs eight straight years, including two quarterfinal appearances.  In the classroom, my teaching duties led to teaching Advanced Placement Calculus, where I enjoyed ten years of seeing 70% of my students earning qualifying scores.  I also became an ACCESS teacher in 2014, teaching students online in a variety of mathematics courses.  After 25 years of teaching at SHS, I retired from public education in Alabama and began a new teaching adventure in the state of Georgia.  In 2018-19, I taught Algebra 2 at LaFayette High School and while I enjoyed my time there, the eighty-mile one-way trip from Scottsboro to LaFayette proved to be too much.  In 2019, I was blessed to start my career at Dade County High School, where I taught Geometry and Accelerated Geometry and coached middle school Golf at Dade Middle School.

Needless to say, I am so blessed to be a part of the family at Dade County Schools and to work with some outstanding teachers, counselors, and administrators.  I look forward to an outstanding year of connecting with students and seeing them experience success in mathematics.

I have been blessed to call Joy my wife for 37 years!  She is a systems analyst for All Points and works on the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama.  We have two amazing daughters, Melissa and Micayla.  Melissa is married to Jordan Schultz and is a children's librarian in Raleigh, North Carolina.  Micayla is a graphic designer for JLL, Inc. in Charlotte, North Carolina.
